HAIR TIPS | going out

Saturday, 18 October 2014

This very style was inspired for an evening out with friends.

My hair! I have to say that I love it too bits,
it acts like a sponge,
feels like a poodle,
is as soft as a pillow and elastic as a spring.

It conspires, aspires but never conforms.
It has a mind of its own
and that's why I will forever be fond of it
as it grows out of my scalp.
It is gorgeously gorgeous and super sexy.

In the above pictures, I have taken it down from a bantu knot set.
Products used;
Organix keratin smoothing shampoo/ conditioner
Garnier Ultimate Blends deep conditioner
Cantu leave in shea butter
Bobby pins

When I upload a review video in the next couple of days, I shall link it down here. These things are better said than written so follow my social media pages to keep posted.

Nail It | Turquoise Temptation (oh so vintage)

Maybelline Color Show: SHOP Turquoise Temptation
2  coats
Photographs have in no way been enhanced

Need I show more pictures? this nail polish is a babe! How are you guys? Hope you're doing well.
I would never have thought of buying such colour craze, I ALWAYS walk past such shades and mattified polishes whenever I'm in Superdrug or Boots. Thank God for my sister! She owns this beauty and I think I might just nick hers forever. hahahaha

Application review:

Drying time: 5 - 10 mins
Application ease: very smooth
Duration: at least a week
Brush type: very practical, similar to Rimmel's fast application polishes. It covers every nook and cranny of the nail

I love my final results, it's oh so vintage.  I am soooo in love with matte nails now, I might just change my entire collection. Although, the only downside to this polish is the fact that topcoats are a no no if you want to retain it's matte texture. Also, it chips off soo easily. Its only wearable for one or two days unfortunatley. Apart from that, they suite the autumn/ winter seasons very much :)

What is your favourite matte nail polish this season?

Nail product review | Andrea Fulerton

Sunday, 20 July 2014

Hope you're all having a great sunday? OkAY, it's time for my first ever ever ever nail product review. Andrea Fulerton are great alternatives for curing nail polish... When I plan my outfits, sometimes I get really stressed out if the tiniest detail is not complimentary. This product dries my nail polish in an instant and pays in the end ^_^

blues and greens | military style

Saturday, 12 July 2014

Go military style with this lovely paired outfit. For some reason, I've always been drawn to pairing these colours and although its not effectively shown in this post, my trousers are actually navy blue. I'd probably do an event post of the colour combination soon.

I chose this piece also because I was feeling quite healthy and military. I've had this jacket for ages, love the fitting, wouldn't stop wearing it even if I gained extra pounds. The trousers were absolutely comfortable probably because they are made out of pure cotton.

My hurr (hair) was styled as such to give an edgy look that matched the outfit (I think I succeeded). Those leather boots are probably my favorite shoes as of present and you'd probably see them in another outfit post haha. I've literally done 10km in them to work and back, they are rain and frost proof. Definitely worth the investment. Love em!

Jacket: Matalan
Trousers: New look
Top: Matalan
Boots: New look

Dressed down: Sure you can get away with the jacket and (maybe) boots at festival, wellies are much preferred. Just saying.
Dressed up: you could totally rock this outfit out with a pair of green heels to a pub dinner/ the movies/ girls night out.

HAIR TIPS | How to turn a hair don't to a do

This article,  would share some hair tips on how to achieve the curly head everyday.
from this
to this

You'll need

A spray bottle, any local hair store e.g Pak's supermarket.

product review here for more information :)

section hair into four
clip down
add herbal essences split remedy to first section, doesn't matter where you start
make sure to tackle the ends more
seal by adding macadamia oil while smoothing down
spray a little amount of water
not so much as to drench your hair, you want it dry overnight
twist and wrap
move on to next section

Thats it, do this everynight to maintain. Beware of frizz however. It can reduce a good hair day to bad. After styling, I leave my hair to set overnight by sleeping on a satin pillowcase or wear a satin scarf. Alternatively, I diffuse to dry.

A head full of bouncy afro textured curls can never go out of fashion for me.
check out the suggested product links in the captions. They are worth trying. There you have it! my nightly routine when I'm not too tired. Thanks for reading once again.

Jeans | on jeans

Tuesday, 8 July 2014

Who said you can't wear jeans on jeans?! It is the best fashion combination especially if you feel daring to rock the unusual.

On my way to London today, I have paired my favourite jean jacket with a pair of pink jean bottoms and some grungy thick soled boots.

Wednesday, 2 July 2014

This post summarizes some of my best hair care methods and highlights some tips on how I've maintained it over the past 3 years. When I was a lot younger, I never really bothered with my hair as much. I was mostly spotted in braids. Having moved away from home to study, I started paying more attention to my hair and its upkeep. For the past three years, I noticed a significant difference in its:
1.             Health
2.           Growth rate

                                                                                                                                                                                         STEP 1:

                                                         STEP 2:

Wash at least once a week with 1:2 parts shampoo : conditioner
For the type of hair I have, it is more important to moisturize than wash. This is because the hair's cuticle hardly initiates sebum to produce natural oils that moisturize my scalp. Meaning I need to moisturize myself and my scalp/ hair is never greasy! yaay!
                                                                                                                                                                                     STEP 3:
Moisturise with Moroccan Argan Oil

This essential oil is mostly found in the tropical parts of the world particularly originating from southwest Morocco obviously (haha). I don't want to bore you with the needly deedly aspects of information overload but you just can't help it when you've spent 3 years writing papers for a degree.

This oil is true to its nature being that:
  • Its colour gives shine and body
  • It naturally contains water which is an instant moisturizer
  • this particular product smells gorgeous like- Marc Jacobs daisy fragrance

                                                                             STEP 4:
Onto Rosemary oil

The first time I heard of this amazing, beautiful, sexy oil was when I came across an article by CurlyNikki in 2012. She wrote about the benefits of rosemary oil for hair growth.

I've been using this baby for a year now and I wish I had known about it earlier! Not only can it be used for hair treatments but also to reduce acne and relieve stress. This oil has been extracted already so you can just add it to your daily oils. It is concentrated therefore only a tiny drop would do.

                                                                           STEP 5:
Massage that scalp!
For the best result yet, massage your scalp often.

Using the head of my diffuser/ fingertips, I do this every weekend on my wash days with rosemary oil. This stimulant with th action of heat and a circular motion on my scalp helps the oil penetrate my scalp and stimulate my hair follicles. Massaging helps:

  • ü  Reduce baldness
  • ü  Increase growth rate
  • ü  Maintain length as follicles are nurtured to prolong hair cycle
  • ü  Relieve stress, one of the arch enemies to hair growth

                                                                                                                                                                                  STEP 6:
Exercise as often as you can

Sitting in front of a computer screen on a 09:00-17:00 or whenever your work shift is scheduled can be the damnest thing! You want to make sure that you are active and moving otherwise you might end up like a fat blob with built up stress. To be fit physically and mentally:

  • Jog at least once a week- especially along the country side if you can help it.
  • Ride a bicycle to work (school)/ Walk
  • Do sit ups and press ups if you like when you get out of bed
Exercising frequently helps set my mind at ease. Gets my blood flowing through my veins which of course is transmitted to my hair follicles. Again, another recipe for hair growth.

                                                                                                       STEP 7:
Trim, trim, trim
Scissors, are a girls best friennnnd (Song). In essence, our hairs diamonds are scissors.

If you are trying to grow out your hair, this section might upset you a little. Its alright you don't have to cut1/2 inch of your hair if you want to maintain length. There are several hair products such as 'Carol's daughter monoi repair serum' that cater towards healing those scraddled (is that even a word) ends.

However, if you are like me and would rather lose a little to have a lot more, I suggest you get rid of those ends. Hair grows at a 1.25cm rate every month so the benefits outweigh the cost.

There you go, my one month proven steps to volumcious, sexy, big healthy hair.

HAIR TIPS | Curly afro hair tutorial

Wednesday, 25 June 2014

My natural hair is a loosely coiled 4b - 4c texture based hair typing here. So to get the hair style in the posts below, I followed these quick and easy steps:
Lipstick: Sleek matte
Earrings: New Look

Firstly, you'd need:

Hair gel e.g ecostyler
A spray bottle with just water
Styling oil of choice e.g. Olive Oil/ Macadamia
Time: 15-20 minutes (depending on the length and volume of hair)

Starting off with freshly washed, hair dried, un-stretched hair, I:

Sectioned hair into 4 parts.
Applied Gel.
Twisted up.
Rolled the twist up into a bantu-knot.
Left to set overnight with a satin scarf in place or a satin pillow.
unravel the bantu knots following morning

This video follows on from the bantu knot:

Style and go!
Hope you enjoyed this :)

Why your old toothbrush might be your hair's best friend

Before I say start, I would like to clarify the categories of people that this particular post relate to. Having an African British heritage, I am more biased towards understanding 4a-4c hair types. However, my biracial and asian friends agree on some aspects of this technique as stated.
